Studio Photography.  Lighting.  Backdrops.  Umbrellas.  Soft boxes.  It all gets so confusing and overwhelming and a lot of times photographers just eschew it all and choose to be natural-light-only photographers to avoid the headache.  But really, having at least a simple studio set up that you can use in your home or take to other's homes, even if you don't get a full studio, will give you much greater versatility.  This is especially true for when you are shooting in the winter in a colder climate or shooting small children.

With the passage of about ten years, look for an update to this blog post!  Rachel shoots the R6 ii and has changed things around a little with the flash triggers, but overall we still have very similar lenses and set ups.  Often if we are not traveling, we will use Alien Bees for the fastest recovery time for our wedding lighting set up!

Posing and styling details is critical to create a professional, polished image, but it can be done without a lot of fuss.  It gives more meaning to the images when you are able to add in elements of the surroundings.
